Not your typical Lawn Care story
The seed that would eventually become Blacksburg Lawn Care was planted in the mind of Scott (owner) after a weekend visit to his friends family farm. His friend Nick owns a house a short distance from their family farm in Dinwiddie County. While enjoying their pool on a hot summer afternoon, someone mentioned the yard being in serious need of mowing. Who likes mowing on a hot day when there is a pool instead?
Everyone was a little surprised when Scott excitedly offered to mow it, as he had always loved mowing yards growing up. While most of his friends figured he was joking, Nick’s parents weren’t about to turn down the offer and the next morning they dropped off their mower. Turns out, they actually sell mowers and outdoor equipment and had a nice mower ready to go (props to Watkins Outdoor Products).
That night, he told his friends he had so much fun he was ready to start a Lawn Care business. Wasting no time, he brought his business manager on board and in less than two weeks, they were licensed, insured, and taking on customers. The rest is history!
About the owner
Scott grew up mowing lawns throughout high school but got busy during college and had to step back for a while. After becoming a certified Paramedic, completing his bachelors degree, and landing his dream job as a Flight Medic he found that his work schedule left some open time to get back into mowing. Most people hate mowing their lawn but after a stressful 24-hour shift as a medic, lawn care can be a fun and relaxing activity. As if working as a full-time flight paramedic and running his own lawn care business isn’t enough, Scott also spends countless hours volunteering for his community.
Building the Brand (how we did it)

Most lawn care businesses to go wide and offer an endless list of services. As a new local business start-up, we chose to go the other direction and keep our services narrow. We mow, and we’re really good at it.

Most lawn care services try to win by being the cheapest. If that’s what’s important to you, go with them. We take as much pride in our quality as you take in your lawn. We take our time, because your lawn matters!
What’s in a NAME?
We considered the typical lawn mowing business puns, family names, and catchy slogans but when we found out “Blacksburg Lawn Care” wasn’t taken, it was a no brainer. BLACKSBURG is where we are & LAWN CARE is what we do. Easy.
